Merida, Spain

Merida, Spain offers visitors the chance to experience one of the most beautifully preserved Roman theaters in the world. A vibrant city with an ambitious calendar of festivities, Merida is a history lover’s dream. As the capital ofJ the Ancient Roman province of Lusitania, the city of Emerita Augusta (modern Merida) flourished under the patronage of Marcus Agrippa and Augustus. The theater, started in 15-16 B.C., was constructed using the slope of a natural hillside, thus saving on the cost of stonework. Later emperors continued to patronize the city, providing needed maintenance and embellishment.

Merida is the first stop for Detective Mazetti and Jake Stewart in the pursuit of Agrippa’s Map.

Information on activities can be found on the city’s website: https://turismomerida.org/festivals-and-events/.
